Chris Wiebe became an associate of Engel Law, and a member of the Law Society of Alberta, in 2021.

Chris was born in Camrose and graduated high school in Grande Prairie before moving to Edmonton for University. He attended the University of Alberta Faculty of Law from 2017-2020.

During law school, Chris coordinated Student Legal Services of Edmonton’s (SLS) Legal Education and Reform Project. There, he co-wrote a report about the disproportionate number of transit tickets that Edmonton Transit Peace Officers gave to unhoused Edmontonians in 2018. The report, titled “No Fixed Address”, contributed to the City of Edmonton’s eventual decision to repeal the transit loitering bylaw.

Chris also volunteered for SLS’s Criminal and Civil law projects and completed a one-year internship at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre doing immigration & refugee applications and social benefits appeals.

Prior to law school, Chris studied music composition and worked for two years as an intensive case manager for a housing first agency. It was while working in housing first that Chris first became aware of the unjust harm that the legal system too often causes low-income, unhoused, and Indigenous community members.

Chris completed his articling year at Calgary Legal Guidance, where he worked alongside low-income Calgarians in various legal matters. While articling, Chris completed a secondment with Eagle Law Group where he helped prepare for a Supreme Court of Canada application in a treaty rights case.

In his spare time Chris enjoys skipping rocks and playing music with friends.
