Kate was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. After completing her undergraduate studies in English at Grant MacEwan University, Kate went on to study law at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. At Thompson Rivers University, Kate received her Juris Doctor of Laws and graduated in 2014 in the inaugural class. Kate completed her articles with Engel Law and, in 2015, Kate was admitted to the bar as a member of the Law Society of Alberta.
During her time at Engel Law, Kate has gained invaluable experience in the area of criminal defence and has successfully defended individuals charged with criminal offences. Kate has experience representing individuals in Provincial Court, the Court of Queen’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal. Kate’s experience has provided her with the ability to recognize when an individual’s Charter rights have been violated by the state. In this context, Kate has successfully used the Charter as a tool to defend individuals charged with criminal offences.
In addition to her criminal law experience, Kate has experience with and has assisted individuals with various administrative matters, including police complaints, appeals to the Law Enforcement Review Board, Human Rights matters, School Board matters, Privacy/Freedom of Information matters, sports administration, and matters involving the Traffic Safety Act.
In her spare time, Kate enjoys snowboarding and training in karate.
