Claire is an articling student at Engel Law.
Claire earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, with specialization in Criminology, from MacEwan University in 2014, and her Juris Doctor (JD) from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia in June 2019.
During her time in law school, Claire served in the Thompson Rivers University Community Legal Clinic (TRU CLC), the first student-staffed legal clinic in the British Columbia interior offering free legal services in a range of legal areas to low-income individuals. Claire also volunteered for the Pro Bono Students Canada TRU Chapter where she offered her legal knowledge to non-profit organizations. These experiences helped shape Claire’s client-focused approach to her legal practice.
While in law school, Claire was also involved in several student-run clubs, including the TRU Black Law Students’ Association (BLSA) where she served as President from 2018-2019. In addition, Claire served as Secretary of the Lawyers’ Assistance Program and was an active member of the Women in Law Society. Claire brings her diverse experiences into the practice of law.
Claire’s interest in criminal defense law stems from the belief that everyone has a right to meaningful legal representation as guaranteed by the Charter. Claire works vigorously to represent her clients’ interests and to ensure a fair outcome. Claire understands how stressful it is to navigate the criminal justice system and would be happy to meet with you to provide any assistance you may need. To serve you better, Claire is fluent in English and Swahili.
In her spare time, Claire enjoys hiking, travelling, and reading autobiographies – listing Nelson Mandela’s ‘Long Walk to Freedom’ and Maya Angelou’s ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’ among her favourites.
